Classes Held

Higher Education students can expect the majority of classes to fall any time between 8:30 am and 6:30pm, Monday to Friday. The timetable for Higher Education programs will be finalised when offers are made.

Outline

The 4 year Bachelor of Education program will prepare you as a professional educator, providing a qualification to teach in primary schools (P-6), or in primary and middle years of schooling (P-10)*.


* P-10 strand offered at Mt Helen (Ballarat) campus ONLY.

The program is comprised of Education Studies, Curriculum Studies, Discipline Studies and Professional Experience.

Career Opportunities Mt Helen (Ballarat): Successful completion of the Bachelor of Education program qualifies you to teach students in the primary years (P-6), or primary and middle years of schooling (P-10).

MIT (Melbourne): Successful completion of the Bachelor of Education program qualifies you to teach students in the primary years (P-6).

* These courses consist of a Professional Experience component (minimum of 80 days throughout the four year program), where students are required to travel throughout Victoria to attend schools and other educational settings. Placements are arranged by the Professional Experience Administrator in accordance with the School of Education and Arts guidelines. Associated travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the student.

DISCIPLINE COURSES
The P-6 sequence consists of four courses in one discipline area of study and two courses in a second discipline area of study.

The P-10 sequence consists of two discipline areas of study with four courses in each.

Entry Requirements Successful completion of VCE including prerequisites of a minimum equivalent of Units 1 and 2 - General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods (either); Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 25 in English (any); interstate or overseas equivalent.

Successful applicants are required to apply for a Working With Children Check (WWCC) card before commencing their program. A copy of the WWCC card must be supplied to the University prior to commencing professional experience placements. Extra Requirements Non-VCE applicants who apply via VTAC must complete the VTAC Pi (personal information) form and submit this form to VTAC with their application. Non-VCE applicants who are required to attend an interview will be notified of the arrangements by telephone or mail.

For relevant TAFE programs which provide a pathway into your chosen Higher Education program, as well as credits you may receive for studies from TAFE programs, visit our Pathways website.

Advanced standing will be determined on a individual basis, depending on eligibility for credit transfer, prior experience and qualifications.

Opportunities may exist for students to progress into this program after completing the Diploma of Children's Services or UB FAST program.
